State officials said Tuesday that because of an increase in demand for electric cars, $350,000 is being added for rebates on new electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and chargers.

The deadline for the rebates is being extended from March 31 to Nov. 1.
Energy officials say expanding the EV Ready Rebate Program provides a long-term solution as Hawaii works toward reaching energy independence.
Since March 2011, 618 rebates have been approved for 372 vehicles and 246 chargers. Hawaii residents can apply for rebates of up to $4,500 on electric vehicle purchases and up to $500 for chargers. In addition, federal tax incentives of up to $7,500 are also available.

What Hawaii is doing is great because they are providing cosumer different options to buying electric cars which i sbetter for the pocket and the more discounts or rebates the more people are willing to buy. Maybe United States should start doing this rebates
ReplyDeleteVariety and options that include; discounts and rebates are great ways to get the consumers attention!
ReplyDeleteHawaii is doing a good option to their clients. I prefer to buy a car that has a rebate to buy a car that doesn’t have a rebate. Also, with this option I can save money and help the environment.
ReplyDeleteWhat Hawaii did last year on rebates is amazing. Hawaii is the perfect candidate for electric cars. Unlike in rural America where it is often people have to drive hundreds of miles in the middle of nowhere, the islands of Hawaii are only so big, and no matter how many times you drive around to get to where you need to go- you’re going in circles! So, recharging stations could totally replace gas stations. This article proves that Hawaii values its energy independence, and I believe that Hawaii could be the first State to transition to all electric vehicles. Obviously, because people move to and from the island all the time there would still need to be gas stations available for those who bring their gas engine vehicles, but in the very least all public transportation could be electric and all new car sales could also be electric. This would preserve Hawaii’s beautiful scenery with the goal of near-zero emissions.

ReplyDeleteThis is a great program, It really gives people an incentive to switch to more efficient cars. A lot of people don't buy cars because of finances, but with this it helps with the final payment. I think a lot of people will make purchases if they know theres a chance they can get a part of the money back that maybe they couldn't have afforded without the rebate.
